Parent Update: 03/02/2026

Message from the Principal

Happy March, Perry Families!

We had such an amazing February, and I am incredibly proud of our students and staff. Our GT Showcase was outstanding! Thank you to the judges who volunteered their time and to all of our gifted and talented students who worked so hard to prepare and present their projects. Congratulations to the students moving forward to represent Perry: Harper M., Maxwell A., Jack W., Janelle A., and Peter J.

We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see you shine!

Our Black History Month Program was phenomenal. The performances, student participation, and spirit of celebration truly reflected the heart of our Perry community. A very special thank you to Mrs. Kristen Hendrix for coordinating such a meaningful and well-organized event. It was a beautiful celebration of culture, history, and excellence.

We also celebrated Lunar New Year, and it was absolutely unforgettable! A huge thank you to Ms. Amy Tran for coordinating the celebration and bringing in the incredible dragon dancers. It was, as several students told me, “the best assembly ever!” We are so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate culture, tradition, and learning together.

Earlier in February, our school Spelling Bee representative, Janelle A., did a fantastic job representing Annette Perry Elementary at the District Spelling Bee. We are so proud of the courage and preparation it takes to compete at that level! Here is the link about all the hard work that goes into preparing for the district bee:

As we move into March, we are focused on strong instruction, continued growth, and exciting learning opportunities. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we are helping every student soar.

Wishing you a wonderful month ahead!

With gratitude,

Erika Jackson

Principal

🍎✨Teacher of the Year Announcement✨🍎

We are proud to announce our 2025 Annette Perry Elementary Teacher of the Year — Mrs. Taffiney Simmons!

Mrs. Simmons is a 4th-grade teacher and is in her second year at Perry. In a short time, she has made a tremendous impact on our campus community. She exemplifies what it means to put Students First, building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations, and creating a classroom environment where every child feels supported and challenged.

Mrs. Simmons is also deeply committed to continuous improvement. She reflects on her practice, seeks feedback, collaborates with her team, and consistently works to strengthen instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Her dedication to growth — both her students’ and her own — is evident every day.

We are incredibly grateful for her heart, leadership, and commitment to excellence. Congratulations, Mrs. Simmons! 🦅✨

🚗 Morning Drop-Offs & Tardies

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during morning drop-off — your help keeps our mornings safe and smooth for all students!

A few friendly reminders:

  • Morning drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop students off before this time, as staff supervision does not begin until 7:30.

  • We’ve noticed a big rush right before 8:00 a.m. as families try to get students into the building. Our team works hard to get everyone out of their cars quickly, but arriving with only seconds to spare can make for a stressful start to your child’s morning — and sometimes, it’s just not enough time.

  • The photo above shows our car line at 7:40 a.m. — it’s usually this empty for about ten minutes until 7:50! Arriving a little earlier means little to no wait time and a calmer start to the day.

  • If you arrive after 8:00 a.m., please park and walk your child to the front of the school.

Thank you for helping us keep our mornings safe, organized, and positive for every student!

Title I Parent Compact & Family Engagement Policy

At Perry Elementary, we value the partnership between school and home in helping every student succeed. Our Title I School–Parent Compact outlines the shared responsibilities of the school, families, and students to support learning both in the classroom and at home. In addition, our Parent & Family Engagement Policy explains how families can be involved in decision-making, events, and activities that strengthen our school community. Both documents are available on our school website and in the front office upon request.
